During his early years, his mentor was K.N.R. Vengara, who helped him establish his career as a full fledged artist. The world of art recognized his skill and encouraged his enthusiasm. Gireesh regularly contributed to the 'Anletter' of equations in Bangalore through his cartoon column 'A trip with me'. His cartoons appear in many prominent periodicals in Kerala. After being away from creating cartoons for some time, he returned to his passion through his political cartoon strip in Vijaya Times, a daily published from Bangalore. In this stint, he captured national and local political movements in his cartoons Gireesh's cartoons have that versatility that one does not find easily in the plethora of sketches and cartoons that span the print media.
